My last holiday post featured holiday memories from the majority of my travels throughout Italy but I needed a separate album for Cinque Terre alone and even here, it was difficult to narrow the photos down to this selection!

Hands down, one of the most beautiful places that I've visited to date, albeit unfortunately being overrun by tourists at almost every turn. Renowned for its colourful apartment block buildings, Cinque Terre ("The Five Lands") consists of five coastal villages; Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare and Vernazza. I stayed in Riomaggiore but all towns are connected by paths, trains or boats.

One of my favourite experiences was volunteering with the locals as part of the "Save Vernazza" project following the landslides of October 2011. My friends and I spent a morning weeding in an olive grove after which we were treated to locally cooked cuisine, home-brewed wine and tales of an Italian man's childhood roaming the hills and how he has watched the village change over the years.

My travel companions and I gorged on pesto, gelato & Italian beer; kayaked around the cliffs; sunbathed on Monterosso beach; hiked from Monterosso to Vernazza; admired yachts in the Portofino harbour and watched a sensational sunset while sipping white wine.

There are travel blogs galore that sing praises of Cinque Terre and this one will probably seem no different to you. So like my fellow travellers, put this destination on your list and discover it for yourself - I can guarantee you won't be disappointed!
